Mysore style self-practice is Ashtanga yoga in its most authentic form and is the way it continues to be taught on a daily basis in Mysore, India (the home of Ashtanga yoga). Rather than being led from the front by a teacher, each student is guided as an individual in his or her own practice, given assistance, refinements, physical adjustments and new poses when required. The power of this system is that the student, freed from having to follow instructions from outside, moves inwards to experience the focus, depth and flow of this unique yoga practice. Exercising this way in the morning is the ideal set up to the rest of any day, helping to develop a steadiness of mind and a peace of being that can lead to a life lived in grace and ease.
