Ashtanga yoga teacher and long term yoga practitioner
Ashtanga yoga teacher Bill Murphy

I have been a student of yoga on and off since 1993. As a Personal Trainer and Martial Artist, I used yoga as a form of stretching and cooling down with my clients and after my own intense workouts. However, it wasn’t until I was introduced to the practice of Ashtanga Yoga by the very brilliant Nikki Cousins, back in 2008, that I got a glimpse of the full potential and many challenges, physically, mentally and spiritually, as well the incredible benefits this and other yoga practices had to offer. Since my first immersion into Ashtanga Yoga, I have developed a strong daily practice, I regularly attend workshops held by many of the worlds leading exponents of this brilliant practice including, David Swenson, Matthew Sweeney, Peter Sanson, Kino MacGregor, Hemish Hendry, along with our very own Luke Jordan and Nikki Cousins. I have successfully completed the Samadhi Yoga Teacher Training Diploma under the expert and selfless guidance of Greg Walsh, Nikki Cousins, Cara Chotiner, Ronan Mee and Rohan Hennessy. I feel very humbled and blessed to be one of its first graduates. I also hold qualifications in Health and Fitness Studies, Personal Training, Nutrition, Developmental Stretching, Aikido, under the Irish Aikido Association and am a Reiki Master and practitioner through the Tera-Mai lineage. I have an avid interest in Iyengar Yoga and attend regular classes and workshops held by Greg Walsh and Kevin Durkin. My training is on going and life long!

The majority of 2014 for me was spent Downunder experiencing life in warmer climes and indulging in a deeper personal practice, as well as teaching whenever the opportunity arose.

But Ireland is home and Samadhi is the home of great yoga and I am delighted to be back teaching within it's hallowed halls. I am eternally grateful to all who have guided and helped me on my continuing yoga journey and feel very lucky to be in a position to share some of what I have experienced with my fellow students.

"Yoga is whatever you want it to be, from a gentle form of stretching and relaxation to an all over body, mind and spirit workout”. For me, it’s a way of life. I welcome students from all walks of life whatever the age, ability and level of fitness. My classes are informative, fun, calorie burning, energetic, de-stressing, detoxing and help build muscle tone and strength, while developing a firm core and a calm and relaxed mind…with regular practice. However, I do feel it's important to point out that while the more one practices, the more yoga gives back, one doesn't need to practice yoga every day in order to feel it's immense health giving benefits. Yoga isn’t about how you look, it’s about how you feel. See you on the mat! And remember, saying you're not flexible enough to practice yoga is like saying you're too dirty to have a bath.
